As Chair of the Environmental Commission, I am proud to join a dedicated group of commission members passionate about protecting and preserving Pennington’s natural resources. The environment is the foundation of our community's health, economy, and quality of life, and it's essential we take action to safeguard it for future generations. Environmental Commissions like ours play a vital role in promoting sustainability, conserving natural resources, and addressing environmental concerns. As advocates for environmental issues in our community, we partner with our community’s stakeholders to inform, develop and advocate for initiatives that benefit our environment and residents. Our commission members are committed to improving our community's environmental well-being, and we invite you to join us in this effort. Whether you're an environmental enthusiast or just curious about our work, please feel free to attend our meetings and get involved in shaping a more sustainable future for our municipality.

Kieran G. John, Chair on Behalf of Pennington Environmental Commission

Our Mission Statement

To assess and anticipate environmental issues impacting Pennington Borough, and work within our community to make recommendations and monitor their impact.

Our Vision Statement

Through our active stewardship and leadership, Pennington Borough will be a model of environmental resiliency. We will unite citizens, environmental experts, and government officials around a common purpose of ensuring a sustainable environment for our residents, neighbors, land and wildlife.

What The Environmental Commission Does:

  • Conducts research into the use and possible use of open land areas of the borough.
  • Prepares maps, charts, plans, pamphlets for the Borough Council and residents.
  • Maintains an index of all open space, publicly or privately owned, including open marshlands, swamp and other wetlands in order to obtain information on the proper use of such areas and may recommend to the Planning Board of the borough plans and programs for inclusion in a municipal Master Plan and the development and use of such areas.
  • Reviews preliminary site plan applications and other Planning Board applications, as requested by the Board, and submits its recommendations to the Planning Board.
  • Works in consultation with the Open Space Committee on open space issues.
